In the Steps of the Master
Published in Hardcover by Folcroft Library Editions (01 January, 1935)
Author: H. V. Morton
Average review score:

Throwing some light on the Holy Land
This is the only one of H. V. Morton's books I've read, although I own one or two others. I suppose I must be slow on the uptake or too busy reading other things, not to have read further. This book was five stars all the way. I've still got the taste of the dust in my mouth.

Being something of a neophyte in matters pertaining to modern day Israel or ancient Palestine, or vice versa, I was thrilled to find myself in the hands of a gifted travel writer on this first armchair journey to the Holy Land. Morton knows how to, how shall I say it, maintain a religious sense in his work without allowing the reader to detect just how religious (or irreligious) he is. It's quite clever. Anyway, there is much biblical reference, almost always referring to the geography through which we pass, or the local architecture. For instance, his description of the Temple fascinated me. I must say it gave me a hankering to go to that part of the world, which is partly what a good travel book ought to do, methinks. Otherwise, I just enjoyed the writing. Very rhythmic, fluid text which is easy to read and tends to sweep one along, almost inexorably. I really shall have to dig out my other Mortons (on the British Isles) and have a go at them. Great read if you can find it, which shouldn't be too hard: he was a very popular and widely published author in his day.

Judaic Artisans Today
Published in Hardcover by Flower Valley Press, Inc. (April, 2002)
Author: Kathryn Morton
Average review score:

Well done
At last there's a book that celebrates the great variety of beautiful Judaica being hand crafted today in America. The pictures are great, showing a wonderful variety of objects, styles and materials. The text is delightful reading as it profiles scores of fascinating artists. And the intro and glossary are an education in modern Jewish art history and ritual ceremonies.

Justice and Humanity: Edward F. Dunne, Illinois Progressive
Published in Hardcover by Southern Illinois Univ Pr (Trd) (January, 1997)
Author: Richard Allen Morton
Average review score:

Dynamic history at its best!
I bought this book as part of my research for my master's thesis on Midwestern progressivism. I expected the usual rather dull factual account. Instead I was pleasantly surprised by the comprehensive research, highly readable prose, and the profundity of the interpretation. Moreover, I learned far more about the realities of politics and society during the progressive period than I have from far more celebrated works. This is good history, and like all good history it focuses upon the past and not the personal saws of the writer. A bit pricey, I have never regretted the purchase. If you are looking for dynamic history at its best, check this out!

Kisses In The Wind
Published in Paperback by InstantPublisher.com (May, 2002)
Author: Jim Morton
Average review score:

Feelings!
This second book of Jim Morton's is every bit as good as his first. I recommend it to everyone, as I am sure it will be enjoyed by the readers as much as it was enjoyed by me. It is a book about love, family, friends and life. It gave me that "feel good" feeling, just to read it. Jim has talent for putting his feelings on paper and I wish him many more successful books in his future.

The Language of Logic: A Self-Instruction Text
Published in Paperback by McGraw-Hill Humanities/Social Sciences/Languages (01 December, 1978)
Authors: Morton L Shagrin and Morton L. Schagrin
Average review score:

Best Book of Its Kind
The first problem with symbolic logic is the use of consistent symbols to make notation feasible and coherent. This book does that. The second problem is to take one step by step, with minimal extraneous writing, to show how it is done. This book also does this. The ideal book would include propositional as well as predicate calculus. This book does both. The other features of this marvelous little book are equally satisfying. The self tutorial is done heuristically, so that each step builds upon the last. I've encountered many logic texts, including Copi and Bates, which are NOT self directed, and this one is hands down superior to any book of logic. This is an excellent find.

Language Within Language: Immediacy, a Channel in Verbal Communication
Published in Hardcover by Irvington Pub (March, 1968)
Authors: Albert Mehrabian and Morton Wiener
Average review score:

This book should be reprinted
I am a student of Neuro Semantics (check out L.Michael Hall "The Frames Game") and NLP which are cutting edge studies of how our lives and personalities are dictated by the language we use (and choose) the copy I got of "Language Within Language: Immediacy, a Channel in Verbal Communication" was an old public library copy copywrite 1968 and it is a juicy jewel. I have several other of Mehrabians books and he is an easy to understand professor and
a genius. Once he points out the destinction between conversation with immediacy and similar discussion without immediacy, you immediately get twice as much from every conversation you have and with a stretch, more about the way you use your own mind. BOOK OF THE YEAR I WILL READ MEHRABIAN WHEREVER I CAN FIND HIM
